The town of Poperinge is renowned as the country’s hop-growing capital. This plant is fascinating for more than one reason, as not only is it the fastest-growing plant in Western Europe, but its cones are also vital to the beer brewing process. While the history of hops is exciting enough, that of the folk who grow, harvest, sell and transform the hops is even more captivating. And all will be explained to you using cutting-edge technology at the Hop Museum. The building may be over 150 years old, but the tour developed for visitors is brand new (reopened at end of 2006). Images from films, audiovisual systems and even an interactive game on the hops theme transform a visit to the Hop Museum into an amazing experience for young and old alike.
